Indigenous Peoples Week

Bawaajigewin Indigenous Week June 21 - 27, 2020

Bawaajigewin Aboriginal Community Circle is celebrating National Indigenous Day with week-long virtual events June 21 to 27, 2020. BACC seeks to celebrate Indigenous presence, nurture relationships, and facilitate collaborations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. BACC seeks to educate and share information about Indigenous perspectives in a myriad of areas and disciplines and engage the Durham Region and regional Indigenous communities.

Highlights of the week include:

  • A message from Cheif Kelly LaRoca Mississaugas of Scugog Island
  • Welcome from Mary George President of Bawaajigewin
  • Proclamation of the day and weeks events from The Regional Municipality of Durham, and the City of Oshawa.
  • Wiingushk Deyweygun Drum Group open our event with an honour song
  • Scavenger Hunt for families
  • Movie and interview from the Robert McLaughlin Gallery
