All participants, due to the pandemic, will need to be preregistered and go through a screening upon arrival at Carea Community Health Centre (115 Grassmere Road, Oshawa). Carea Indigenous Family Night honouring Orange Shirt Day

All Our Relations Metis Drum Circle

Orange Shirt Day

The Power Song Sung by All Our Relations Métis Drum Circle 2020.

The Power Song was shared with us by Danka Brewer of the Sisters of the Drum.  It is meant to be empowering for the Indigenous people, not just the women or children, but all the Indigenous people because they lost their voice a long time ago and they are now gaining it back.  We sing it today especially to honour Phyllis Webstad and the thousands of Indigenous children and their descendants whose lives were forever changed on their first day of Indian Residential School.

Mash-chii-ka-nun Sung by All Our Relations Métis Drum Circle 2020.

Mash-chii-ka-nun was gifted to us by Métis Nation of Ontario Honorary Senator, Oshawa and Durham Region Métis Council Senator and Elder, Olivine Bousquet Skura Tiedema. Olivine and her Métis family have a long and significant history across the Northwest Homeland. Today we honour the strength, tenacity, stubbornness, resilience, and pride in their heritage, of the thousands of Day School and Residential School Métis children and their descendants.
